There is an ongoing hunt by the NYPD for two ladies who were involved in an assault on a Jewish person on the Upper West Side. The incident started when the 41-year-old victim approached the two while they were destroying posters depicting Israelis who had been abducted by Hamas. The altercation happened on Thursday night, shortly before ten o’clock at night, close to the intersection of West 82nd Street and Riverside Drive. When the victim saw the suspects taking down the “Missing Persons” posters from a light pole, she became angry with them both and recorded the whole thing on her phone.

The two women attacked the Jewish woman physically as their verbal altercation became more intense. During the attack, they took her Star of David necklace by force, broke her smartphone out of her grasp, and then ran away from the scene. The confrontation resulted in minor injuries to the victim’s face and neck, as well as damage to her cellphone.

The suspects, according to the NYPD, are tan-skinned black-haired men and women who weigh around 135 pounds apiece and are about 5 feet 6 inches tall. One of the suspects wore a nose ring, and the other was last seen wearing black clothes.

This action is part of a worrying trend of antisemitic attacks, in which demonstrators purposefully destroy or deface posters showing pictures of Israelis taken hostage by Hamas. Since Hamas’s surprise attack on October 7, these posters, which have been placed throughout the five boroughs, have become a source of conflict. These acts have drawn severe condemnation from Mayor Eric Adams, who called them a “deeply misguided act of disrespect to victims of terrorism.”

Anti-Israel demonstrators continue to rip down the posters in spite of the public uproar against such activities, which has led to recent arrests. Many New Yorkers are becoming more and more irritated by this rising trend, with some expressing the opinion that these acts are not only illegal but also essentially disrespectful and mischievous.
