Jillian Ludwig, an 18-year-old Belmont University freshman, was shot in the head by a stray gunshot when she was walking near the Nashville campus. Ludwig later passed away.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department reported that the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Edgehill Memorial Gardens Park. In a social media update on Thursday morning, the department stated, “Sadly, Jillian Ludwig passed away during the night.”

The statement claims that after she was hit and knocked out, no one spotted her until almost an hour later and reported her to the police. When she was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, her condition was described as “extremely critical.”
With the aid of witness accounts and video surveillance, the 29-year-old suspect was found in Nashville. He acknowledged discharging the gun in an interview with officers at police headquarters, according to a news release, and claimed to have passed the rifle to someone else.
In light of Ludwig’s passing, authorities and prosecutors are collaborating to update the suspect’s charges. As to the official records of the jail, he is presently being detained on a $260,000 bond due to the initial accusations of serious assault and tampering with evidence.
He is also accused of failing to appear in court in relation to a September carjacking, according to the press statement.
