The most prestigious awards in the music business, the Grammys, are taking place in 2024, and the Recording Academy is currently revealing the nominees. This announcement is made in the middle of the continued struggles that many individuals are going through in an effort to get through the week. Notably, there is a subtle hint to The Weeknd’s omission, a musician whose omission from earlier nominations has caused criticism. The Academy has cut the number of nominations for Album, Record, and Song of the Year, as well as Best New Artist, from 10 to eight apiece in an attempt to expedite the nomination process.

Three new categories are being offered this year: Best Alternative Jazz Album, Best African Music Performance, and Best Pop Dance Recording. A variety of well-known people, including St. Vincent, Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, Muni Long, Kim Petras, and Jon Bon Jovi, the 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year, are revealing the varied list of contenders.

It’s interesting that the statement was made just a few days after a woman sued former Recording Academy CEO Neil Portnow, claiming the Academy was negligent and that Portnow had sexually assaulted her. The Grammy Awards are still scheduled for February 4 in Los Angeles at the Crypto.com Arena, notwithstanding the current turmoil.
