Giants to release Cole Beasley from practice squad After ‘Private’ Conversation

Cole Beasley Out

Former Bills wide receiver Cole Beasley signed with the New York Giants this offseason, joining the mass exodus of former Bills players flocking to the Meadowlands.

However, his reunion with Giants head coach Brian Daboll, the Bills’ former offensive coordinator, was short-lived. After Beasley was designated to return from injured reserve on October 10 but did not get to play in the Giants’ October 15 game, the veteran wanted out.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported on October 20 that the Giants and wide receiver Cole Beasley have mutually agreed to part ways. Beasley requested his release from the practice squad, which was granted by the team.

Head coach Brian Daboll kept the details of Beasley’s departure private during his comments to the media. “I have a lot of respect for Cole,” he said. “Just decided that both parties had a good conversation and he won’t be on the practice squad.”

Despite Beasley’s initial enthusiasm about joining the Giants, there was no clear path for him to play, given the team’s emphasis on developing younger players. This decision raised questions, especially considering the close relationship Beasley had with Daboll from their time together with the Bills, where Beasley had over 100 targets in each of the three seasons they worked together.

Cole Beasley’s Release Was Not Injury-Related; He Still Wants to PlayBeasley’s immediate release wasn’t due to an injury, Daboll said. “He’s healthy,” he said.

Despite dealing with a quad injury during the preseason, Cole Beasley was reported to be close to 100% by late August. There was significant anticipation that he might secure a spot on the New York Giants’ active roster.

However, Beasley was eventually released and signed to the practice squad. He was placed on injured reserve on September 4 due to an undisclosed injury, although recent updates suggest he is in good health.

Currently, a free agent, Beasley, who briefly retired last season before rejoining the Bills, seems determined to continue his NFL career.

Cole Beasley’s Return to the Bills Remains Highly UnlikelyWhile much of Bills Mafia would love to get the controversial receiver back, if Beasley couldn’t crack the 53-man roster with the Giants, it’s hard to imagine him doing so in Buffalo. While the Bills offense has struggled over the past two weeks, and could maybe use the veteran to help bring the new guys up to speed, Beasley is looking to play football, not coach.

In January, Cole Beasley expressed his willingness to return for another season with the Buffalo Bills if he received an offer. However, the Bills had already moved on, which became apparent to Beasley when they drafted Dalton Kincaid.

Beasley had a conversation with Bills general manager Brandon Beane, but it was not about returning to the team; instead, Beane offered assistance if Beasley needed anything. As a result, Beasley did not rejoin the Bills and is currently exploring his options in the NFL.
